Iran’s Aggressive Strike on Saudi Oil Facilities and Its Global Implications

Before today’s attack, no country—including Israel—had dared to attack Saudi Arabia. Iran’s attack on the petroleum installations in the Saudi city of Al-Jubail is not only an attack on Saudi Arabia but also on the sentiments of Muslims around the world.

Iran’s attack on the oil refinery and petrochemical facilities in Al-Jubail cannot, in any way, be compared to a retaliatory strike on American installations.

Saudi Arabia has always assured that the American bases on its soil are established under an agreement and have never been permitted to be used for offensive actions against Iran.

If any country attacks installations that are vital to Saudi Arabia’s economy, it will certainly have negative consequences for the country’s overall security and stability. Any strike on Saudi Arabia is a direct threat to the protection of the Two Holy Mosques, which, as their guardian, is completely unacceptable to Pakistan.

Since the beginning of tensions in the Middle East, Pakistan has consistently tried to make Iran understand that attacks on neighboring countries—especially Saudi Arabia—could further escalate tensions. Despite Pakistan’s insistence, Iran has continued its attacks on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.

In contrast, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states have shown great restraint and have limited themselves to defensive measures.

This attack by Iran is a serious blow to reconciliation efforts aimed at reducing tensions. It has been carried out at a delicate time when diplomatic efforts to end the conflict were moving in a sensitive direction. This attack significantly undermines those diplomatic efforts.

Despite being fully aware of the mutual defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and its implications, Iran’s actions create difficulties for the people of Iran and Arab countries and run counter to the interests of the Muslim Ummah.

It is also important to note that the longstanding and historic relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia transcends sectarian and linguistic differences. The Two Holy Mosques hold immense reverence and sanctity for all Muslims living in Pakistan.

Pakistan not only strongly condemns these attacks on Saudi Arabia but also calls for restraint from all parties.

In light of Islamic teachings, it is clear that when one of two Muslim parties is committing aggression, preference is given to standing with the oppressed party.

Such aggressive and irresponsible actions are dangerous for the economic stability of developing countries like Pakistan. Attacks on energy installations can severely disrupt the daily lives of ordinary citizens. Therefore, it is essential not only to condemn such attacks but also to prevent them at all costs.
